Artificial Intelligence might become the flagbearer of the most innovative contributions to improving our lives in the coming years. OpenAI’s ChatGPT was the first mover and, in a way, the pioneer of generative AI worldwide. Since then, the AI startup has not stopped evolving its services and product offerings.
Till now, none of the AI chatbots had the power to store conversations for end-users, or in simple words, have a memory. OpenAI’s ChatGPT has cracked the solution to this roadblock by adding the memory feature for its ChatGPT Plus subscribers. The AI chatbot now has an option to either remember a conversation insight or let go of it.
ChatGPT’s memory feature can dramatically improve the conversation quality and experience by eliminating the need to set contexts for every conversation. Earlier, users had to set a strong background and share all the critical insights to get accurate outputs. This process can be time-consuming and often requires a lot of prompting. With memory enabled, users can simply go back to former conversations and continue with subsequent prompts.
Memory is now available to all ChatGPT Plus users. Using Memory is easy: just start a new chat and tell ChatGPT anything you’d like it to remember.

For example, ChatGPT will save the details of a person’s daughter if asked for them. This information will be saved as context for future conversations relevant to the former one. Whenever the user returns with a similar discussion, they do not require input of the daughter’s details for a question like “Share top 3 gift ideas for my daughter.”
OpenAI tested the feature earlier for both free and paid models, and it is finally launching the end product for ChatGPT Plus subscribers only. The platform also simplified managing memories by letting users know about a saved memory by hovering over a message. To turn the feature on, users can click on the lower left-hand side of the screen, where the settings button is placed. Then, they must click on Personalization and toggle Memory on or off. Users can also access saved memories by clicking the manage button, which displays all the saved memories and their respective conversations.
